Hey,
I was wondering if any of you guys have ever created a background for your fish tank by gluing live rock to the glass. I saw this done at a LFS and it looked pretty nice. I've heard of using styrofoam and painting it to look like rocks. I'm looking for a 3-D background for my new tank.

I wouldnt do it directly to the glass.
Read BigC's tank thread in the nano section, his is awesome. He used egg crate so it can be taken out if needs be.

The expanding foam tanks are also nice, usually you spray it onto egg crate, then let it dry, cover with an epoxy then throw fine sand all over the epoxy so it looks like rocks.

Sorry thread hi jack

That sounds a brilliant Idea Ben, I might be needing some more advice on that soon :good:

Very nice way to do it.

I looked at BigC's and decided I did not have the patience to sit there gluing pieces that small.

I will probably go with that idea to hide the weirs when I swap to the 55g. As you say Ben, it gives you so much extra room for corals.

I have to say, the 55g may not be as long as I first anticipated. Whilst I still love the tank and the inhabitants, there is now something lacking from it. It is not the same as it once was

I have glued rocks to magfloats and then placed frags there, but never glued rocks directly to the tank walls. If you do go with the foam idea you will need to use rock to as the foam itself will float IME.

ok sounds like fun. Ha ha. I got some free time on my hands waiting for my pvc to dry. I'll go with the reef bone idea. thats what i saw at my LFS. thanks a bunch guys. I'll post some pics when my tanks nearing completion.
