Do you use a background on your tank?? I was told that you should not use them.. Is this true??

If you're talking about the stick on back type backgrounds, then they're aesthetic only, and the choice is up to you whether you like them or not. I don't think there is any reason to specifically not use them, unless you wanted to specificaly see the back glass or whatever?

I only use a background on my display tanks on my breeding tanks I usually don't use anything unless the fish get freaked out by too much light. Its all about what u like to look at.

ok, someone tried to tell me that they disorient the fish or something like that. I had never heard that before.. lol

Sounds pretty far fetched to me.

It's another of those weird urban myths. I have backgrounds on all my stocked tanks and one is 3 quarters wrapped. Back and sides. I find that those fish are more comfortable now as they only see people or objects from the front of the tank and not sudden movements on all three sides.

My other tanks aren't in a busy or high traffic area so they're just backgrounds to look nicer.

I can't stand a tank without a background!!It just isn't natural!!!!Both my tanks have backgrounds that I change every few months. I get tried of the same background.

I have always liked them better with backgrounds too.

I would tend to disagree. I've found that my fish are far more skittish without a background and feel more secure with one.

The aesthetic part is to hide cables and such.

I have a fantastic looking blue background. Some might say its unnatural, but wait till I post pictures of it later! I have red lava rock, and it seems to glow against the background! Really cool!

(I know, I know. I'm not supposed to be on the computer. But is it 7 am yet? No? I see a 6:45 on my clock..... )
