Just wondered if any of you have put whatever background you use on the sides of the tank too.

Does it make the tank look any better? (im using a plain black on the back)

Cheers

mmm have thought about it, but never tried it :)

Sometimes I like to look through the sides of my tank so I can see right at the back and just to have a different feel of the tank so I wouldn't do it.

I've put one on my smallest tank, It was to stop the sun from hitting the tank (algae control  )
But I think it did work to brighten up the tank too.
Black on the outside, blue facing into the tank, but only on the end that faces to window.

I think i will do the same on another tank in the same location too ;)

:)
JDS

Edit: The tank's positioned so i can't see through the side anyway, so i don't lose anything by covering it.

I haven't, but it might make it look a bit smaller than it is - like painting a room in your house a dark colour, sort of brings the walls in. I guess it's got to depend on where the tank is - if it's in an alcove then it'd probablly look loads nicer with the sides covered.

Good comments all... thanks..

good reason for it to stop algae.. the other side of the black stuff i have is that fake stuff i dont like, so would need to take that into consideration.. :D

I did on the tank in the foyer where people constantly come and go. The fish were constantly being frightened or distracted by seeing people on all sides so I wrapped up the sides and now they can only see/be seen from the front which has really improved their normal activities.

I do on my long 20g because one end is next to a window that gets alot of sun so I put a blue background on the side by the window to keep algae away and if any appears my pleco will eat it up.

I put it on the sides of tanks to keep one tank's inhabitants from seeing other fish in a tank next to theirs.

I have done this on my 62g
I think it looks better than when there was one on just the back.
mind you I have used a plain black backing

Me too. I like seeing my cute little fishies from the side...
It gives you a different prospect..

I have black bacground on the back and the right hand side- both of which have a wall by them. The other side and the front are open to the room, maximising the viewing angle.

I have aswell I put it on the side because I didn't want to see a white wall behind it.

6 and 2x3's really

I tried it once and didn't really care for the look. Sometimes I find it interesting to look through the side to view the fish though.
