Are you using the standard aquarium backgrounds from the pet store? How are you trying to attach it? I've always used those and have never had one bubble. I just cut it to fit then use a couple of pieces of cellophane tape to attach it on the sides.

Well I use aquarium sealent and put it on the inside but you have to be sure you like the backing cos you have to strip the tank down to get it off and be careful not to scrape off any tank sealent. I have a basic blue background which I'm happy with and it shows the colour up nicely.

I have read that most people smear vasaline or vegatable oil on the backing then use something like a credit card to 'iron' out any bubbles, maybe you could try this method it seems to work for most people. The vasaline or veg oil stops any water droplets from getting between it and the glass and also the colour shows up better so I believe.

same here and i've never had bubbles

If you're just doing black or blue it might be easier to paint it, and you don't have to worry about bubbles.
