I have a very nice coral background taped to the outside back of my aquarium. When I have my hood light on, I can't see a good majority of the background. I can only see the most brilliant colors, the yellows.
But when I turn the hood light off, and I have my lamp on an end table on, I can see the background a lot better. The lamp on the end table if approximately 7 feet away from the tank.

My aquarium, and everything else, hood, light, filters, etc are all brand new.

Does anybody know what I might be able to do to brighten up the background, using my hood light. I really don't want to buy a new hood light, because my aquarium trim, and the hood light have woodgrain on them.

You can try using vaseline instead of tape. Apply vaseline to the entire back of the tank and use it to stick the background to the tank. Use a credit card to sqwegee out any bubbles.

The background should be a lot more vibrant.

Where are the lights/light in your hood? get a reflector and tilt it towards the back of the tank to brighten it up. If you only have one light at the front get another one for the back.

I tried vaseline to start with, but after a short time the background started falling off. So I taped it.
The hood that I have is a single bulb hood. My tank is a 42 gallon high. 36 inches long.
