Has anyone got some advice regarding backgrounds for tanks?

My fighter is in a 90 litre community tank and I really want to use a plain black background. But as soon as I put one up I have a betta that spends his whole day trying to scare his own reflection!

I tried telling him that it's not another fish, but he won't listen! lol

You could paint it or try using mat rice paper.

I think its the glass that makes the reflection.

Black is the worst thing to have around Bettas. Show a Betta black and you can virtually guarantee they'll flare. I found white paper helpful as a background to smaller tanks/jars, as it focuses the light back at you (the viewer) and calms the fish. Doesn't look so "pretty" though, but then again I'm more interested in the fish than what's behind them lol

I've used inexpensive plain white shower curtains from the dollar store for backings. They can be easily cut to size and taped on. :D

if you have a planted tank put alot of the plants along the back to break up the reflective space, the refections from the plants make it harder for them to see themselves

Creating a java moss wall is also a good way to cover the back of a tank on the inside. Shrimp will enjoy picking through it too if you have them, and fry can hide in it if you have those as well.
