Well, I returned home today after being on vacation for a week....both my plecs passed away while I was gone. Fortunately, I had someone checking on my tanks every day so at least the fish were not rotting there the whole time.

But one of them was my very favorite plec as I've had him since my first tank last year. Both were very sick though, so not really a surprise I guess. I put them in their own hospital tank before I left as I thought they may not make it (velvet, I think.) My poor little plec's fins were pretty ragged....

Rest in peace little guys.

On a bright note, I did get to see the Waikiki aquarium in Hawaii. Very cool. I want tanks like that!!!

R.I.P.Sorry for your losses.

Oohfeeshy, love your avatar!! Reminds me of years ago when i used to love eating spam salad (spam, pickles and mayo) sandwiches!!

LOL thanks, I'm just waiting til I can change my title. :shifty: ...

At least you had someone looking after your tanks who took the fish out, rather than killing all the other fish.

I'm so very sorry to hear of your losses :(
It's always sad to lose any finned friends, especially two at once.

Ooohfeeshy - I live in Wisconsin, and on my way home to visit the parents in Minnesota I go by the Spam museum. It's in Austin, MN.

Any idea what happened? =[
Yeh, they had a bad case of velvet, I think. Thought it was ich at first but saw the "gold dust" on them near the end.

I recently purchased 3 upside down cats for my 55 gallon and did not quarantine them first --- two of them died within a week and the third one lived but looked terribly. Wasn't long before the two plecs got infected, too. So I took out the ones who looked to be in tough shape and set them up in their own little hospital tank (which was already cycled.)

Interestingly enough, the last USD cat looks 100% better - so I think he may make it. He's the only fish in the hospital tank right now. The other fish in the 55 gallon appear to be doing well, too. No signs of the parasite at this time but I'm still treating the tank to be sure.

What an awful ordeal this was/is. I learned a very good lessen and will be setting up a quarantine tank this weekend for future purchases!
