This happened ages ago but I thought I'd bring the topic up because I never really knew what happened.

When I got my first Platies ( 4 females and 1 male ) and after a couple of days, I noticed a little baby in the corner of my tank. I was really excited about it because none of my fish had ever bred before but, unfortunately, the next day it had gone and I never saw it again. There were a few possibilities of it's disappearance. 1. It might have sucked up the filter but I looked around in the filter when I was cleaning the tank and never saw it. 2. The parents might have eaten it which I doubt because Platies are herbivorous ( aren't they? ) 3. It could have been buried in the gravel ( I highly think this was the possibility. )

Do you know what could have happened to the baby? By the way there was only one which is kinda strange as fish usually give birth to loads of fry.

Oh no, Platies will definitely eat their fry. That would be my guess as to what happened. Or some other fish may have eaten it. Most fish will eat fry.

Yeah, it's sad. But natural. You can try adding in floating plants, and small hiding places. This should give the fry places to hide. Alternatively, you could catch them and put them in a breeder trap/net.

Oh, it doesn't matter about them now. I gave them back to the aquatics when my Gourami started bullying them. Thanks for the tips though.
