hi,

i have 10 baby platys that are nearlly 3weeks old. 1 of them is continually on its side - it is breathing and does eat but has trouble swimming, it is also smaller than the rest of the fry.

i posted on main discussions aabout the best way to kill it so its not suffering and it was suggested i post on here b4 i do anything incase anyone has any ideas on how i could help/save it if possible, as i dont really want to kill it unless i have to.

It sounds as if there won't be much you can do, I'm afraid :( It's not uncommon to get the occasional deformed fry in a litter (is that the right word? You know what I mean anyway).

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed the fry?
Was it born like this?
When the fry swims can it maintain balance.

It could be a number of things, bacterial, constipation, swim bladder damaged during birth.
