:p Hi all

Today I have found my female pineapple swordtails has popped out some babies!! Pretty big for fry.

I can only ever seem to see one at a time as I didnt place the mother in a breeding trap and the tank has 5 live plants that they are hiding in.

Is there any way I can catch them?? Im not sure I want to stress them by trying to catch them with a net!

I hope more than one is still alive!

:D :D :D

Congrats! I herded mine into a plastic cup and carefully lifted it out. Look out for kids though; my daughter almost drank mine before I got them into the other tank,

Hehe I should be okay as I have no kids just yet!

I havent seen him for a few hours now, it was impossible to catch him... will try again with a cup later.

Hope he's okay! :hyper:

Congratulations! More will probably turn up...they're pretty crafty when it comes to hiding.

Using two nets works pretty well (helps if you have an accomplice)...use one to gently chase the fry into the other. It's better if you move slowly and calmly, because if the fry panic they'll move way too fast to catch. It still takes a little patience, and you may end up accidentally rearranging your tank in the process, but it works in the end. As for stress...they have a better chance of recovering from stress than from being eaten alive, lol.;)

I have still only seen the one but he was alive and well this morning.

Didnt manage to catch him again though and now he has disappeared again.

Im pretty sure he will survive though in the tank... he is a demon when it comes to hide and seek it seems!

I have some pineapple swordtail babies. They're really simple to care for. My advice is to put the mom in the breeding net before she gives birth.

Yep. Was too late.

Plus I dont want my tank to be overcrowded in the future anyway so at least only the strongest will survive this way.

congratulations!!!
after ending up with a batch of 50 pineapple swordies at the start of the year after putting mum in our baby tank we now leave them to give birth in the main tank & rescue any fry we see as rehoming was rather stressful with 50 babies!(but we managed) i use a little net & put a cup filled with tank water under the net once ive got one so the fry arent actually out of water at all during the move, it isnt easy & ive often not been able to get one & it has not been seen again, not nice but i guess thats nature.

The 2 babies are doing very well.

I now have 4 pregnant guppies though... i will just leave them in the tank save being overstocked...

Some are like show guppies too, they look great Im hoping the babies look greaty they are from 8 different strains.
