hi all,

i have more than 20 5-week old baby mollies that i am planning to trade-in with my LFS.
they more or less 1 inch from head to tail.
have anyone of you tried this?
any advise on the approach so i get a good deal?
i am thinking of trading them for catfishes or loaches.

:thanks:

or will they take them?
Hi,
When i traded my fish in at local LFS they gave em very bad deal. It may have been a one off who knows. I'D SELL THEM PRIVATLEY THOUGH.sorry about caps lock. key keeps stciking.
Thanks

thanks mate!
what deal did they gave you (if you don't mind me asking)?
About 45 Baby neon swords about 1 inch long for £10. Now i just sell them privatley. You get a much better deal. However it is your choice. If you don't trade them i may be interested PM me. However i would ask your fish shop how much tey'd give you first as mine may have been a one of.
Coolio

Yes,Hetfordshire

Most LFS won't give you much for the common Livebearers, simply because they are very easy to breed and in abundance. What you experienced, SiameseFighter, is typical. You can try selling privately first, but if space becomes an issue, it's probably better to think of the fish first and take them to the LFS, rather then stuffing them all in a tank. :)

i am not expecting a profit for the babies..
i just want to free some space on my tank before getting a few loaches/catfishes.
so i will even give them away if they won't trade-in...

by the way, will i need to bring some water samples to the lfs?
or will they ask me before taking in the babies?

Probably not.. have you talked to them already?

When I traded in fish I went in and talked to them first.. told them what I had and they looked around and decided they had room.. They took my name down and told me to come back in a few days, and if the fish were still healthy they would tell me what credit I would get.

I was trading in expensive cichlids though, so livebearers might be different.

i haven't talked to them yet.
they are 25 miles from my place and i can't seem to find their number on the yellow pages or the web.
:thanks:

They might not be willing to accept baby mollies. They are pretty common, and LFS's here dont always like public bred specimens lol. It might pay to speak with them first if you can find that number, or pay them a visit before you take the fish in! :) If not, private sales or giveaways are always options for you!

i just spoken personally to my lfs (where i got all my fishes and stuff) and they won't take them in even if i give it away to them..they just lost one customer!
i drove to another lfs where i get my aquatic plants and they are willing to give me store credits when they learned i have more than 20 babies to give them...
