I have a cycled 10-gallon freshwater tank and I'd like to have a pair of fish, one male and one female, who could breed repeatedly and cohabitate with the fry until they're big enough to give away to friends and pet stores. Basically, I'm looking for easy-going, non-aggressive fish that can live together and with babies in a 10-gallon.

I've tried kribs, but the female always beat up on the male and I tried golden gouramis, but the male always beat up on the female. I have a livebearer tank (platies and guppies) and it would be nice to do something a bit different.

Any ideas out there??

Livebearers are one of the best option. Try Endler's or a more "exotic" type? A pair of butterfly cichlids :might: fit, but it's kind of hard.

If you're willing to take care of a couple of 1 to 2 gallon tanks also, you could breed bettas. For a 10 gallon, you've listed everything else I could think of.

If you want a pair to breed repeatedly, eventually you won't be able to give the offspring away to anyone. The parents won't be in the best of health, either. Look what this has done to Guppies. Also, do you know for certain that you have people who will take EVERY lot of fry?. Please give this some more thought.

endlers would be a good choice for a tank that size, just get 3 to start 1 male and 2 females

I agree with Miss Wiggle, Endlers would be great. Not only that, many lfs don't stock them so maybe you could sell them on.

Even some 'Molies' would be good and are livebearers. I also think Endlers would be good.

Mollies are too big, and might well eat their offspring. Endlers a much better option. Or how about turning it into a hardwater shelldweller tank with a small colony of neolamprologus multifasciatus, they are quite expensive to buy, so you might find willing takers for them. Other options might be cherry barbs ( 1 male, 2 female-trio), or pygmy corys (small group or 1 female, 2 male trio).

cant go wrong with guppies they wont let u down on the baby front, they will eat some fry tho but think of it as a free meal and as long as u keep feeding the guppies they wont eat all the fry and some will make it all the way 2 the big time!
