Hi all I recently had a disaster buying Kribs, it would appear the shop gave me imature males instead of females. Anyway, i had do a lot of chopping an changing amongst tanks but i managed to seperate all males.

I was sitting at my desk today when i noticed that the tiger barbs in my tall tank were being attacked by the kribs (I know, this was a tempory measure plus i had no idea they had paired up properly). On closer inspection the kribs were in fact protecting their young. This was a good thing as it prompted me to finally take the barbs to the LFS. My question is about food for the young. There is a bit of algae about, i am awaiting some ottos for this. There are no plants etc about tho, do I need to get them anything special to eat or is the usual frozen blood worms and flake ok for them as i assume they are small enough to eat some kind of micro-organism for now.

Unfortunately there were quite a few casualtys from those blastard barbs, there were just too many for the 2 kribs to fight off :-( :-(

My krib fry have always survived well on the flake food that falls to the bottom of the tank. I just make sure to crush some of the food up fine. They will nibble at the algae, too.

Thx, there is a little bit of algae at the back of the tank an they do seem to spend a lot of time grazing there, thx for the reply. Funny watching them an the parents seem to put them to bed at night.. they never come back out the cave despite both parents just swimming round the tank...
