Baby Hermits

Are hermit crabs live bearers two nights on the trot my smaller of my two hermits have been ie the same place doing a funny thing with her shell. A kind of flicking it back and forward quick and these little clear bugs keep coming from her vicinity, They dont last long as the 2 clowns have been gobling them all up.


I did manage two catch two in my fine net, They have the two black dots for eye and look like a shrimp tail at the other end and are about 1mm long.

They are now in my pod culture since last night and and 1 is defenitly still going strong 8)

Any ideas any one.

they need shells, they wont make them themselves.

If they survive to the settlement stage, they will indeed need tiny shells. Not sure if they will use something else, but if you are using live sand/rock, there may be baby snails on it.

Looks like the ones in the pod cullture didn,t make it

Ill just have to wait and see if any made it past the greedy clowns and made it to the live sand

I have a load of very small shells in my live rock but to be honest I dont think they stand a chance .

If the clowns didn,t get them I,m sure my choati wrasse will soon get them in the live sand
