We have had our 6 guppies for 8 days (1 male, 5 females) Just noticed today we have baby guppies hiding in the plants! Thought the females were pregnant, there are 2 fat ones and the other 3 have the 'gravid spot' but we didnt know for sure. Didnt know what signs to look for that they were due to give birth soon but we have counted 5 babies in there today. The others must have been eaten :(
they are about 8mm in length so Im guessing a few days old? Cant tell which female it is that gave birth as there are still the 2 fat ones and the other 3 still have the black spot!
Crumbled up some flake food really small and dropped it down to them but the greedy neons keep snatching it up before it sinks low enough!
How can I look out for the next female going to give birth? I noticed 2 of them were staying near the surface alot of the time just floating there, Ive noticed 2 zooming up and down one end of the tank. And 1 or 2 of them creeping in between the plants, dont know whether to give birth or eat the babies! None of them stopped eating though!

When the females are looking like they are going to burst, that is your sign. Large is relative, but when fish are about to give birth, they're huge. The baby can eat wisps of algae, and when they get hungry, they'll come up to eat. Don't worry too much.
