right my boyfiends mum has started a new tank only had it about 6 weeks and she has

2 clown loaches
8 neon tetras
6 platy
5 barbs
4 guppys
1 candy neon


there was 5 guppys but 1 died we think it was a girl as she had the dark spot on her tummy which i found out means that she was pregnant

she died about 4 days ago and today she has noticed baby fish in the tank

do you think that they could have come from the guppy before she died or if they are from the platys or any of the others

oh yeah the platys have only been in 4 ish days dont know if that makes a difference

I would say its most likely the platys as they are live bearers

Have a look at the platys, if one of them as a really thin belly, it possibly is that one that had the babies.. if all are fairly plump, then it was probably the guppies...

Easiest way to tell guppy and platy fry apart is...

Guppy fry are longer and thinner

Platy fry are more shoter and stockier..

How many gallons is the tank.
Do you have water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

not sure on stats as she has it done in the shop when she wants it testing

i went round and had a look at them there very hard to see as they were hiding in lots of plants
but what i could see was there really small with just the black little eyes cream coloured but with little black bits on the end of there tails

dunno if that helps

oh and i forgot to say the platys are orange with black tails

but also the guppy had a dark blue tail dont know if thats heradatory
