Baby Cory Help Needed- Strange Bubble Growth And Deaths

Do you have alot of aeration in the tank as bubbles beneath the skin can be gas bubble desease.

Gas Bubble Disease

Symptoms:

Symptoms include blisters that are clearly visible beneath the skin, particularly in the head area, in and around the eyes. Blisters may also form inside the body. Sick fish will make a croaking sound when removed from the water.

Cause:

Oxygen oversaturation: This disease is most frequently seen in heavily planted or Algae-ridden aquariums or ponds. In such a scenario, oxygen production can be so great that it upsets the proper balance of dissolved gases in the water causing very small gas bubbles to form inside of the fish. If these bubbles move to the blood stream they can be fatal.

Remedy:

Perform an immediate water change to restore the proper gas balance. Clean away Algae and reduce the amount of live plants. Use an anti-algae chemical if necessary, such as Algae Destroyer. Reduce lighting to reduce oxygen production by the plants.

If you lost quite a few fish all to bubbles bemeath the skin it does sounds more like gas bubble desease.

no not a lot of aeration really. a standard air pump on for a few hours a day thats it. ive read up on oversaturation as it was mentioned by someone else but it doesnt sound like it to me. theyve been in this tank since they were born and its just suddenly this problem has occured.

Take a look here to see if anything matches up.

There this but it's more of a swelling beneath the skin.
A swelling forms in the muscle under the skin during the course of several weeks and may protrude way out from the surface of the body. The scales can be lifted also A sporozoan cyst or lesion forms in the musculature No suitable treatment known. Verify by dissecting the fish.

Do you run a filter aswell in the tank I wouldn't switch the airstone on to see if that makes a difference.

yes there is a filter too. will turn off the airstone to see if it makes a difference. i dont think theres really a need for it anymore anyway, i only put it in there to hatch eggs :)

Done a search and all its come up with is bubble gas desease. bubbles or blisters beneath the skin.
For now I would just keep the airstone off.
I will keep looking but not finding much at the moment.

thanks wilder, you are a star. amm off to work shortly but will update in the morning if theres any more deaths or improvement :)

Just read that bacterial infections can cause gas bubble desease.
Has your young corys had an infection.

I will pm colin t for you to see if he knows what it is there suffering from.

I would tend to say bacterial as well, most abdominal problems that you can see externally are from my experience.

My Cories appear to have a "bubble" in their abdomen when their stomach is empty. I had always assumed it to be just their stomach and have never had any issues with them. Are there any other symptoms?

For nosoup4you
corydoras do take in air from the surface and in some species you can see the air moving through their digestive tract. They also fart it out at the other end :)

I would add a bacterial med and see how they go.
Are the corys still dying.

another dead this morning and two more have come down with the dreaded bubble underneath.
have started a course of esha 2000 broad spec med and am hoping it helps but im fearing its too late. i can only see two babies left and they both have the bubble.

:(

Ok bless them.
Done all you can really. Just hope they pull through.
