My friend at the LFS gave me 8 two and half month old of baby convicts from her tank at home and they all have orange on their bellies, does this mean they are all females? I know female convicts have orange on their bellies, but these are just babies. All of them but on have orange, they are about 2 inches long. :good:

:hyper: eeww convicts! rats of the cichlid world because they breed like them!!!(but yea, females have orange bellies, males dont)

this post belongs in new world area NOT african/old world...

Yeah, this belong sin New World Cichlids. Convicts breed like rabbits but are as territorial as hell! Hmm, 2 adn a half month old con's? I just gave away a few 3 to 4 month old ones an dthey didsnt hhave any orange on them. If their 2 inches, they are around 8 months old them. Mine w ere abotu 1 inch long, adn i feed them nothikng but Spirulina and BBS. Got any pic's? Boths males and females have orange on their bellies. Males only get it when breeding. Females generally have it all the time.

I must disagree with this. Males don't get orange bellies, only females do.

Yes, they breed worse than rabbits though. Give it a few months and you'll have a tank full of babies. LOL They also grow like weeds too. If you do decide to keep them, get a big tank, or you'll be doing water changes every other day, at least. Mine were the very messiest fish I own. I've managed to get rid of all my babies, and now have a place for pair to go. Honestly, I can't wait until next week, when they pair goes to their new home.
