Baby Convicts

My convicts babies became free-swimming on Thanksgiving, the 22nd. That was about 16 day's ago. I have been feeding mine alot of brine shrimp, at least once a day, plus a crunched up mixture of : Omega One Tropical Fish Flake, Hikari Spirulina Flakes, Tetra min Color, O.S.I. Vivid Color, O.S.I. Angelfish, Nutrafin Livebearer Food( with tubifex worm's), adn a few other foods. Well, they are around a 1/4 a inch, and they look nothing like the " tadpoles" they are supposed to look like, until 1 month. Most have their very Visable Stripes, adn you can clearly see their finage. I was wondering why they are growing so fast? The water is good quality at around 80 degree's, adn i dont do frequent water changes. I really wasnt expecting them to get this big, this fast, i was expecting over a month. Also, if they are growing at this rate, how long do you think it will take them to get to sell able size( around a inch)? Thanks in advance!

I am not sure, but with their current diet, they should grow pretty big!

Thanks, they look liuke actual fish, not tadpoles, so i was wanting to knwo when they shouild get around a inch! Any help?

With that diet they are going to grow wonderfully healthy and very large. I would start them on a beefheart mix soon, contains a lot more protein and will really make them bulk up.

Thanks, how much should i put in, and how am i to break it up, as it comes in cubes?

How many fry do you have in there, anything more than 5 and I would put the whole cube in.

It will be finished very quickly.

Also it would probably be better and cheaper for you to make up your own beefheart mix.

I've got aorund 200! They arent terribly large, but they sure do eat!

Yep, thats normal.
I was the proud owner of about 600 at one point. Glad i managed to offload most of them though. Was a difficult task.

Yea, maybe three or four cubes, just see how they go, keep the variation in there diet though.

Probably just over 2 months. Time is flying for me lately so i honestly can only give you my guess at the moment.
