Did anyone have a problem with hatching bbs ,after storing eggs in the freezer. I got in a fresh sippy of eggs from Aquarium co-op, a reputable dealer .😊 made my hatchery , which I don't many times before.added salt added eggs, and had a nice hatch.. Meanwhile I put can of eggs in freezer. Collected bbs, cleaned everything up and started another hatch, did everything the same way...3 days later no hatch...4 days later no hatch. The only difference was I was using table sea salt . For first one and API Aquarium salt for the rest...2 or 3 more attempts. All no good . Maybe eggs got damaged being in freezer ! 😱 Anybody else have this problem... Thx.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Brineshrimp eggs can be frozen and survive in a freezer for years.

You could try a new batch of eggs and set up several containers. Have one container with the older eggs and one with the new eggs. Use the same salt for them. Try different salt and again, set up 2 containers wiht both lots of eggs in. You might have got a bad batch of eggs.

I thought it may be the eggs..but the first time I used the eggs, everything was fine ..good amount of bbs..then I put eggs in freezer..next day tried another hatch..no good...nothing !!! Tried again , and eggs 3 days later...Nothing.
I did try different eggs...they seemed pretty good , hatched well,So I am using the so called bad eggs..see if anything changes ?

I froze my brine shrimp eggs. One thing I noted is if I don't clean out the hatchery, two litre pop bottles, well the hatch is not as good. Also I found you have to fine tune the air at the bottom of the hatchery to ensure that the eggs are always in some motion but not bouncing around too much. Temp is a big deal, in cooler weather they can take a days longer to hatch and the hatch is slower. To feed angel fish fry I found at the beginning I would have to run three hatcheries to keep the young supplied with enough naupli at the right size, during this time I fed the excess to the other fish or froze them for when I did get a failed batch. I could get two sometimes three harvests from 1/4 teaspoon of eggs in one litre of water. I used Kosher Salt with just a bit of baking soda for the mix, and always used freshly made salt water.

Buy your eggs from Brine Shrimp Direct out of Ogden Utah. They will give you directions that go into great detail about storage and hatching. These people do one thing and one thing only. Brine shrimp. And they know their stuff. For my money, the best and cheapest salt is Morton pickling and canning salt. $ 1.50 for 4 pounds. Mix 5 teaspoons per quart. Don't worry about dechlorinator.
