i just looked in my cichlid tank and THERE ARE BABY LOMPROLOGUS BRICHARDI :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: !!!!!!!!!!!!

however what the heck do i do now? loeave te fish alone with the parents? i've only spotted three fry.
do i need to feed them anything special?
should i separate them to stop them being eaten by the other fish? are the parents cannibals?

Congrats on the fry!

If I remember correctly brichardi parents will raise the fry and older juveniles from previous batches are allowed to help with new fry (hope that made sense). Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You could add some newly hatched brine shrimp, or just crush up whatever the adults are eating. :good:

Edit: Yup, I was right, brichardi do raise their young with older juvies helping.

N. Brichardi are REALLY good parents, maybe too good. This is why they are so overtly aggresive to any fish that aren't directly related eg parents, siblings etc. To be honest I started of with 6 and removed all but 2 when they paired up, I now have about 30 in a 240litre, and that only because I pass loads on. There is no need to add any special food for the young. The adults will chew up and spit out whatever they are eating for the fry to eat, as will their elder siblings.
