Baby Bettas

LOL my husband takes a passive aggresive role in our fishkeeping. He says no to anymore new tanks/fish/etc., yet if he finds me seperating a male away on it's own we're off to the LFS to find it a girlfriend because "It's not right to make a guy suffer like that." . He has a love/hate relationship with our own male betta, so I'm not sure he'd be happy getting another "snobfish" lol. He still pulls the same "It's not right." routine about the fact that the betta has his own solitary tank though, so perhaps there's hope yet, even though I'd not breed him right now lol.

Rofl.. that's hilarious.

As for the betta babies... SOOOO CUTE! I've never seen what betta babies look like before so thanks so much for posting pics!

Wow, wish I could get that many tanks in my place!

Yet another victim of MTS :good: Was wondering about how much your set up cost you? I'm going to be turning my basement into a "fishroom" over the summer, and I'm trying to find the most cost effective way possible. Thanks :good:

The Cinderblock/2x8 shelf for my 2.5g tanks cost me ~$30, holds a total of 18x2.5g tanks, OR 6x 2.5g, and 5x5g.SO shelf unit $30+ 2x 18" Flor.Light Strips @ 14ea + 2xpower strips @ $2.50= ~$60.00 (bought all at home depot)

The shelfs for my 10g tanks were also from home depot. The shelf unit is sold as a 48"Lx24"Dx72"H, makes 5 shelfs. The "Muscle Rack" can be set up as two units (as I have mine) I bought the same 2"x8" board used on 2.5g rack (cut to 4'2" Long) and screwed down so that 1: gave support for the tanks to sit on (did not trust the .5"plywood supplied) and 2: holds the metal frame as not to bow out. This one unit (when devided into two shelfs) holds 8 10g or 20g high each. So TOTAL of 16x 10g or 16x20g highs. Shelf unit ~60.00+ 2x8s ~$16 + (I used 48"long flouresent light strip from wall mart mounted under shelf) Light unit $7+$4.50 for bulbs= ~$90.00 for 16 tank shelf! Pretty good in my opinion.

4 screws holding 2x8 down onto plywood, than another 3 on outside of metal cross member to keep from bowing out. Have it all overhanging so all weight is on METAL, not on the plywood.

Word to the wise! if making a stand for a larger tank ie 55g, cinderblocks are great. I'm about to make a unit for a 350gallon tank. Concrete 4 cinderblocks together, cross with Steel "I" beam, and welding plate on top. here is a pic of the stand I will soon be making. can be done same for 55, 75, whatever... For larger tanks just adjust how many cinderblock supports you have, and number of I beams. I also plan on using a .5" mdf board with "high cost" looking laminated end to make a skirt, and doors. Will apear to be made of high quality stianed wood (when really i saved money by using cinderblocks ;) )

Very nice! Thank you so much! next week when I go home for break I'm going to start taking measurements and setting up shelves and such, it probably won't be done until the summer, but it's going to be such a fun project!

YES it is truly fun, but let me tell you, its addicting... When you go, well if i'm saving this much $ on building my own stand, I can buy this too, and havn't lost any money. lol

Hey was wondering what types of bettas you have for sale? Am looking for crowntails, and halfmoons, preferably marbles, red butterflies, and mustard gas, thanks hun :good:

That settles it. I am forcing my husband to check out your stands. The place we are moving to is an old grocery store/laundromat with concrete floors (carpeted now in all but what i want for the fish room) and was renovated into a beautiful 3 BDR/ 2 bath apartment setup. The "fish room" is 16' x 30', so I have a ton of room to play with :shifty: . Problem being, here we have built in shelves that hold our tanks. In the new place there aren't any built in shelves, hehe. This means I get to make my husband do something constructive :shifty: . He hates that word, because it always really means work. Those shelves you showed are just the excuse I needed to sneak in a few more totes and ten gallon tanks that I've had offered to me for free :shifty: .

Edit: I also forcing him to look at that gorgeous creme/yellowish crowntail :shifty: .
