I bought two pairs of sailfin mollies (orange with black and then a silver pair) on Saturday. This morning, the silver one had obviously given birth (much more slender and a few babies in the tank). I immediately put the orange and black female in a breeder net. About an hour later, she had given birth to a BUNCH of little orange and black babies. I'm estimating 60. I don't want to keep them in the breeder net. I don't seem to have good luck doing that (they always seem to die). Would a one gallon set up with an airstone be adequate for them? I could buy a 5 gallon set up with a filter for a little more (or even a 2.5 gallon at wal-mart).

Thoughts?? Advice??? What do I feed them? I put in very finely crushed flakes for them and they seem to be trying to nibble them.

Congratulations!

Try to get the bigger tank as they need room to grow.

Finley ground flake should be fine for them, feed them often and keep the water extra clean.

Good luck.

I would try the 5 gallon tank they need room to grow also. You will have a lot better luck with them that way..I am going to tell you this now you will have this problem alot with the fish that has their babies. You tend to run out of room fast. I had to seperate the male and females. They were just too many babies. Good luck with what ever you decide to do..
