I bought a female guppy today from my lfs, put it straight in a breeding trap cos i could see the babies quite clearly! Sure enough, a few hours later there were babies...although only 3. Also on the bottom of my breeding trap there's what looks like strong bubbles with a white spot on the top... surely not eggs?!

The bubbles with the whitespot could be aborted one's not sure never had guppy fry, is the mother ok as the stress might of sent her into early labour, have you removed her from the trap.

I havent removed her from the trap yet- she does seem fine, doesnt look stressed or anything but perhaps introducing her to the other fish is a good idea.

Just worried abou the net causing more stress on her, and she will eat the babies if left with them.

easy one, she stressed, and adorting. Carsed by the move from the LFS, then being put into a new inviroment, and THEN being trapped.

Take her out the trap now. If this fish is'nt dead with in 3-4 days I be very suprised.

OK, i have let her out into the tank which is a 45 litre tank. Basically Im planning on using this tank as my nursery- the fry are still in the trap so she cant get to them. She looks like shes gonna drop some more so i hope her being alone in the tank is fine? in a bit of a dilemma- to avoid stress i thought putting her in my community tank with male guppies isnt such a good idea?So shes in my 45 litre alone at the mo... Is this the best decision or not?

Yes, she's in the best place for now. She has lots of room. And Male Guppies will just stress her out even more, as will moving her again. Give her good foods, like Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp, Tubifex Worms....Live, frozen or freeze-dried. Just alternate it in with her regular foods, maybe every 2 days or so. And keep her as stress free as possible...and you may have more fry! :)

Congrats on the ones you have already, though. :D

Yes, I'd like to know what's going on with her. You may also want to keep the lights out for a day or so just to cut down on stress even more. You don't want her dying...

So basically, anything you can think of to keep the stress to a minimum would be great for her.

Great advice, also if you can plant the tank dencly, it will help the female stress levels, and give anymore fry lots of place's to hide.

I'd let her settle, before planting up though.

I hope this fish prove's me wrong, ans suvise's. Keep us posted on her progress.

Yes, Planting it is also a very good idea. Forgot to mention that! Decorations are great too, like rocks, driftwood, little caves...etc. It will make her feel safer. I would wait a few days before you do anything, as ferrikins said. :)

Best of luck with her! :D

I did have plants in there already- she seems to be ok at the moment, I kept the lights off for a day which i think helped her a lot. The only concern that I have of her is that she is maybe a lil pale- maybe just me worrying though. She definately looks as though she will have another set of fry soon and the 3 that she did drop are still alive and are looking well :D

She maybe pale, because she been in the dark for a little wile, is she eating and swiming ok.

She should'nt drop again, for about 4 weeks, could be even longer if shge's stressed.

Oh ok, well i guess shes ok then. Well I dont think she is stressed anymore, she swims around ok but stays still a lot- that maybe because she is by herself in the tank still? She is eating fine.

Hey. Just letting everyone know that the female guppy of whom this topic is concerned with has made great progress, after 10 days of isolation in a tank by herself she has been added to my community tank which has more guppies, swordtails and a molly. She is swimming around happily in there and is still feeding well. I'm over the moon :D
