i just moved my 29 gallon. i empted it and moved it to its new spot. then filled it up again and turned everything on again. in the water once it was full again i saw fry in the water! before it was moved, there were two red belly parahnas and two giant dianos (that the P's couldnt catch). the fry are 1/4 of an inch and see through. their eyes are red tho. are these danios or parahnas? ive never seen either before.

yay babies! :kana:

Piranha fry

I can't find a good picture of Danio fry :(

I would guess they are danios, because P's will guard their eggs for two to three days and then continue to guard the fry, where as danios just scatter. I would be very suprised if you didn't notice the P's spawning.

Thanks
I wonder how old those fry are in that picture. my suspicions lean towards the Piranhas. but what we have in the tank are not as developed as your picture. the red bellies were acting funny, and i have a friend that has a breeding pair. he described some of what we were seeing, but our fish did not exhibit all of his "breeding" behaviours. i guess we will just try to keep some alive long enough to see what they are. My friends red bellies have kids every 3 weeks like clockwork so i guess we will see......

That picture is of day old fry, the pictures I could find of older fry were quite obviously p's so I figured that was beyond the point ;) Definately keep us posted as what they are, I'm still gonna lean towards danios, less complicated, and I definately think you would have noticed guarding if not spawning -_-

ya, maybe danios then. we will keep track of them. hopefully they will survive. thanks for the help!

Hey Jessie My bet is for giant danio fry, those fellows were in there for sevral days anddanios breed like mad, Plus the p's Havent been eating well have they, while P's can go a while with out food I'm guessing that they arent in a breeding mood. If they are danio fry I can hook you up with some of my insoforia culture (I've got about 12 gallons of paramecium and about half a gallon of an ameoba culture with a bit of algea) and if you dont have room to raise them without them becomeing live food I'd be more than happy to take them off your hands :D

Congrats on your fry Jess, that's cool that yours bred, i didn't ever get any out of mine. oh, i finally filled that 33G, you should come see it sometime
