So I have this 180gal I am trying to get going and I put 12 Cory Elegans in it. After a month my daughter noticed teeny tiny baby cories which we all though was cute and a sign of good water quality. Then a few weeks later we spotted another batch. My intention is to add angelfish which will obviously control this cycle but for now it is what it is.
Well yesterday I go to clean out my canisters and what do I find? 4 baby cories! They were waaaaaay too big to be sucked up so that means they probably entered the intake pipe as fry and have grown up inside the filter. Remarkably they all are fully formed and all fins accounted for. The only thing I am not sure of is if they are blind or not. But they are swiming around the tank fine (so far).
So while I never was trying to breed the little guys I did, and thus I never thought of adding a sponge filter to my intakes - which is the purpose of this message!
FYI
