A lot of people have found success keeping two different species of clown with each other. Even these two have the same body type, they are different colors so it might work to have them in the same tank. But they wont form pairs.

I have a pair of false percs and a pair of black percs and they really didn't like being in the same tank together. And also it was a 120, so a ton of room and they still didn't like it. Now if you mean one of each I have seen that. I would get one larger than the other so the dominance should work out easier.

Thanks for your replies guys (and Gurls) :)

I'll probably leave it then if they won't form a pair :(
Saw the black one down the LFS and thought how great they looked although y favourite is the true.
I can only have 3-2 fish in my tank so i want to get more colour varieties. If they would've paired then i woulda thought about it.
Thanks
Dan

I don't know if it is helpfull but i was under the impression that tank bred percs have been selectively bred to produce a black & white varient. They usually have a small orange spot on their face, which may be a throw back to their original colour.

These fish although a different colour are genetically identical. IMO the two colours should mix and pair, in the same way classic percs would do.

Hi TigerKnife :)

After reading your post i found some pics of a B&w Clownfish pairing with a true perc in a anemone! :hey:
I'll seriously consider getting a pair. Is it best to get one a lot larger than the other or two really small ones?
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan

I had a couple of Saddleback Clowns about a year ago - they were excellant fish to watch & had a great attitude towards my Orange Percs - never had an issue

:D

Hey Del

Does their orange spread around as they grow older or do they keep their colour they are born with? They look great, the ones down LFS don't have any orange even around their faces. A different specimen?
Thanks
Dan

If what you see in your lfs are black colour morphs, then some fish may not retain any orange.
So they can be just b&w, in the shops around here they are usually the first fish to be sold. I guess they are more desirable.
When it comes to clown size. You could chose the same size fish and let them deside which is to be female. Or you could deside your self by choosing to purchase one bigger than the other.

black percs start off orange and switch to all black as they age. Juvs are usually seen with orange faces but thye will turn entirely black and white as they mature. A deep dark velvety black too!
