So yeah.. little history...
My betta Pinky got very sick after another girl had died.
Not sure what caused it, maybe stress from the other girl picking on her, maybe whatever Bertha had infecting her. She started to bloat and pineconing started to occur.
So anyway.. I pumped the tank full of meds. Maracyn 1 & 2 first, and then tetracycline. Gave her salt baths, but it wasn't doing anything.
So decided to add in epsom salt right in to the tank.
Nothing happened for a few days. She got worst before she got better, but, she did get better. Much to my amazement. She wanted food, she started flaring and chasing the other girl, she was acting almost like her normal self.
I couldn't believe it. I was SO happy.

Well... yesterday... she was fine. Acting like a normal betta. Flaring at the other girl through the divider, eating, swimming around, etc etc.
But that changed quickly last night. I don't know what happened but she's been resting on the gravel all day. She slowly comes up for her breath, but just sorta freefalls back to the gravel.
She's a light color, but you can still tell she's lost alot of color. Her body is usually a light pinkish, now it's a dull yellow.
Also her breathing is back to being very heavy and labored. Before when she was developing dropsy, her breathing was heavy as well, but not as bad as it is now.

I don't know what's wrong. Maybe it's the same thing. She does look slightly bloated. I've kept epsom salt in the tank and have been redosing it during water changes. But maybe that's not going to be enough this time.
Yesterday morning I did see her trying to release eggs. Her ovi spot was very swollen and protruding from her body. I saw a few eggs released, but she still has a good bit still in her. Not sure if that would be causing her to get sick though?

Anyways... I don't know what to do anymore. I put some more maracyn 1 & 2 in the tank.... and *shrugs* It's not looking good right now.

 dont think you can do much else. Sorry. One of my boys keeps recovering and then going down hill again. He tucks himself in a plant and doesnt move for ages and ages, and he has gone very pale. Might be old age. :good:

Guess it's just whatever was wrong with her before catching up.
She's not doing well at all right now.
This isn't like last time. Last time, she was still very aware of everything around her, watching me, looking around the tank, etc.
This time... there's just nothing there behind those eyes. I think it's just a matter of time before she dies.
She has swollen up a bit more as well.
I should euthanize her, but I just don't have the heart to do it this time. *sigh* I just hope she doesn't suffer for much longer.

Well... she's dieing right now as I type this. Looked over and saw her swimming around frantically. Recognized this behaviour b/c I've seen it before with other fish who were about to die. She spazzed out again and sank to the gravel belly up. Scooped her out and put her in to a cup of water.
She's on her last breaths.
Poor girl :( She fought as much as she could but just couldn't shake whatever caused this.
Uuuugh... I feel so awful. Always feel so guilty and helpless when this happens... like I should've done more even if there wasn't anything else I could've done.
Ya know, these little guys depend on us to help keep them healthy and when something like this happens.. just can't help but feel like you failed them.

*sigh*
I guess I could take some comfort in knowing that she didn't suffer for long.

RIP My Pinky girl....

Sigh... she died while I was typing.....
Looking at her, she definitely appears to have bloated up. Think the epsom salt helped, b/c her scales aren't popping out, but she's still definitely bloated. But it doesn't appear to be from fluids. She was VERY eggy.
Well I just put her in to my garden.... RIP... RIP

Oh, so sad... I'm sorry. Her coloration was very similar to the female I just had die...only she was bf.
