Hi,

180L tank with 3 gouramis, 6 neons, 6 corys and 2 v. small bristlenose. Going away on Friday night, so can feed them before I go, and back at Sunday lunchtime.

Should I get a feeder cube for whilst I'm away, and muck up my water quality a bit, or will they be ok for a day or so without food? (I think I've read on here somewhere that someone's done this, but just wanted to check)

Any advice would be appreciated.

most tropicals can go a week or so without food....

is the tank planted? as this will help alot

They will be fine. In the wild fish may go for two, three or possibly five days without food as some strange-looking (to them) bi-ped isn't dropping in flakes for them to eat.

I would not get a feeder cube as all these really accomplish is fouling your water.

That's good to know - thanks for the rapid reply!. I've only got java fern and moss in there at the moment, but I was hoping to get some Vallis (sp?) before I go.

Dont get twisted (corkscrew) vallis, its a pain to look after.

Oh rubbish!! I just bought some a few hrs ago before I saw your post!! How come it's a pain?

Oh, I've had good luck with my corkscrew val. When you first plant them they may look as if they are dying. The have a tendency to lose some leaves when you first plant them in a new tank (they get translucent and ugly) but new leaves will shoot right up in no time. They also send runners out like crazy! I highly suggest some root tabs for them, they will really help.
