Availabilty Of Female Dwarf Gouramis?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to aquire a female dwarf. I have check 3 large chains locally, and 4 mom and pop stores. No dice. The only option I have found so far is online ordering with a $27.00 shipping fee no matter how small the order, and I am not really thrilled to order live animals through the post.

Why on earth pet stores think people only look for brite colors and not for a complete tank environmet I will never understand. Like when I asked a person at a chain store why they didn't sell them. He said because they dont have color and just dont sell. I asked if they had stocked any since he had been there. He replied "no", I then asked how he could know they wouldn't sale...Arrrgh. What a pain.

You can check all the dwarf gourami tanks at the pet stores and look for a female that might of gotten mixed up with the males. I'm not sure if this is true but a lfs that i trust said they use hormones with gouramis so that they can get more males.

You could also post in the buy, sell, and swap section that you want a female dwarf gourami. I think you could get shipping cheaper than $27.

yhea most people post around $15 priority mail (2-4 days) so it is MUCH cheaper than $27. but i too was looking for a female as well, but i had no dice as well. hmmm.... they only sell the pretty fish because of profit. not many people will be looking to buy a blueish gray female when they can hve a brightly colored male for the same price. it makes me sad too as it makes us people who try to provide the best for their fish suffer because of people's vanity.
