Hi Guys,

In February, I'm going away for 4 weeks -_- and want to know what you guys think about them? And what type of fish feeder should I get? I'm in London BTW... :D

I have read some horror stories about auto fish feeders but also read some equally awful stories about fish sitters who over feed etc... I've never tried either but be wary and very smart going on here asking which is the best to get

If you do get an automatic feeder i'd certainly recommend you test it out first before you go away. I don't know if they'll hold 4 weeks worth of food ??

I've heard stories of people coming home and there being loads of food in the tank and dead fish...

EDIT: What are you going to do about cleaning the filter and water changes?

I saw one in Pets at Home that was a mechanical thingy that automatically tipped a pre-set amount of food into the tank ever 12 hours.

Dunno how well it would work, or if it holds enough food for 4 weeks, but I'd rather try than one of those dissolving ones. Maybe get one and have someone pop round to check the tank and restock the feeder?

Those autofeeders work but you have to get one that will hold enough food for your fish size/population for 4 weeks. Once you have it, set the amount of food serving so that it's just enough for them to eat up completely. Make sure you test it out to see that it does what you set it to do before leaving. You should also get a timer for your light. Do a large water change before you leave and put in some fresh carbon to take care of any excess organics.
