Hi i am going away for 17 days in september and as there is no one around to feed the fish i need to get a feeder.

Could anyone reommend the best one for the job?

I will just be feeding flake once a day, but obviously need it to be able to drop for 17 days.

i found this one on ebay, what do you think?

Hi

I too am going on hols soon.... we are going mid October for about the same amount of time. I would be very interested in how you get on with the auto feeder. I have considered one of them myself.

We are leaving our (adult) son in charge of the house. He will move back in and look after the dogs and the pond as he has done before. However we did not have a large fish tank the last time we went away and I am not sure that he will have the time to be feeding the big tank as well as the rest of the zoo.

I have clown loaches, corys, rasboras, kuhlis, dwarf and sparkling gouramis - so there is quite a variety of food. Are you able to put dried bloodworms, algae wafers and flake in or is there only room for one sort of food??

Any help would be great.

Also good luck robabsalom with the auction!

Most types should be able to handle bloodworms and flakes together, not osa sure about algeawafers though, get one before you go and run it for a few days to see how it should be set for minimal spoilage of food in the tank, also make sure it can handle the volume of food you need it too.

Well I'm not too keen on using auto feeders but if u do then feed once every 2-3 days and it also helps if u lower the temp by 1 degrees. If you can get someone to check on the tank and jus tell them basically what to do.

I got that type of feeder to feed my fry when I went away. It works really well and is simple to use. You can program it to feed upto 4 times a day but I am pretty sure you can only set it to feed daily....i.e. you can't skip days. I only had baby fish flakes in there so cannot comment on whether or not it can handle bloodworms.

I did test it for a few days before I went to get the hole size right (where the food falls through).....

hi,
weve got a fishmate 14 auto feeder - works well but only for 14 days but your fish will be ok for a couple of days. the only think i would like to really say is please load & test your feeder BEFORE you go & check its working ok. we had a nasty experience a couple of years ago where we set it up but we overloaded it & our poor fish went hungry for 14 days. omg the guilt when we arrived back. our fish all survived but it was v cruel (unintentional but cruel) now we set it up somewhere & make sure it doesnt stick before we go. i put half tubifex cubes, algae & catfish tabs + flake in ours & works very well. :)

My son will be here but was trying to lessen the load of pets he has to feed while we are away. He will be able to keep an eye on it. I will definately be trying it out before we go away.

Thanks so much for all the help

Unless you can find an analogue one and plug it into a timer like the one we use for lights, 12hrs on, 12 off.

Then it would take precicely 48 hours for it to go round 24 hours.
