I would like to find a cheap, reliable top up unit to replace the evaporated water from my 55G reef tank. What do you guys use, what do you recomend to buy? Cheaper the better!

ive read on UR one of the cheaper units are unreliable or get stuck.

ive looked at building an auto top up. worked it out at about £50 materials so far including pump, float switchs,contactor/relay.

Could you not just use a torbeck valve out of a toilet or is there more to a top up system than I have realised?

I was going to make one myself but got one from my lfs for about £60. Cant remeber what make it is off the top of my head but been running a few months with no problems so far.

you could as long as the ball (or anything that touches the water) is safe for a marine tank.

the water would also have to be stored above the water to give it abit of pressure

tunze ones seem to be most popular at the minute, £170 new though. They quite often pop up 2nd hand though as there seems to be a lot of people giving up on marines at the min
