Attack of the Giant Platy!!!

What is the biggest platy you've seen? Today at the lfs, they had atleast a five inch one! It had to be platy...it looked just like it! I had no idea!

I told mine they better start growing, so they can stay in with the firemouth in the 65 gallon.

5inch platy ?! are you positive they wern't some swordtail or molly hybrid?

biggest i have seen is 3.5 inch

It doesn't clasify as a true platy if its bigger than 3inchs and it is likely it is a mollyXguppy or swordtailXplaty or has one of those 2 crosses in its genes.

actually, the common molly can get quite large -- exceeding 4 inches in some cases.

Yeah but its very hard to breed a molly with a guppy in comparison to swordtail with a platy, i used to have for example mollys in an old guppy tank of mine for about 6months and while the guppys and mollys produced tons of their own offspring, they never once produced a mollyXguppy fry.

Actually I have pure platys that are 3 to 3.5" long.
