I'm fairly new with attaching moss and decided to attach some to a piece of slate and bogwood with a hair net :p . I was wondering how long it usually takes the moss to attach itself to the slate and bogwood and when I would be able to take the hairnets off? It's a bit of an eyesore. :fun:

it will attach to the slate and the hairnet - if you take the net off it will pull the much of the moss off as well.

Options; use a natural cotton (this will biodegrade in a matter of weeks) or a clear synthetic cotton (go to any material/sewing shop for these).

I did some large pieces of slate with moss a few weeks ago (6 maybe) and they are well attached now.

:good: well I guess that's the fun of bein new at things is trial and error. :p

I'll give it a couple of weeks and see if I can cut it off amdvcarefully try not to pull the moss off. I as able to stick some of it in some crevices in the wood that didn't need to be tied down.

It also depends on the hardness of your water. I have very hard water and moss takes a good couple of months to attach properly. I have heard some people say that even after 6+ months their moss is still not attached.

I've never tried to attach moss to anything but I do have two plants in my aquarium which attach themselves to their surroundings. In the case of these plants it took about 2 weeks. This may give you a rough idea of how long moss will take to attach.

My water had a hardness level of 9dH and a PH of about 7.6 when the plants attached themselves.

Thanks for the input. I decided not to attach the moss to the slate and just made a little cave out of it. Itook the hairnet off the bogwood and stuck the moss in the crevices of the wood. :D
