*at Last Aro's Tank Mate*

We have just bought another new fish. A Tiger Shovel Nose. At the minute it is looking doubtful it will survive....the woman at the Lfs bagged it 4 times , put it back in the tank then into a jug before she would realise it needed a big poly box. The TSN it totally stressed and when we opened the box at home he was lying on his side and rolling onto his back....when Jay lifted it into the tank it didnt even put up a struggle. Things looked awful for it when it was in the tank with fast movement and it kept flipping onto its back. We have turned tank lights off and dining room lights too so it can chill a little. Upto now it is still breathing and we will just keep a close eye on it. Fingers crossed it makes it.....what a stunning fish and if it does pull threw i will post pics as soon as its settled. It is approx 15" but will be able to tell better when we can have a closer look..just wanna leave it be for now. So mad cos the poor fish was lying diagonally across a tank and couldnt more it was far to small for him....some shops just dont care, this is the same shop we bought the niger from and the reason we have bought both is because they have been there for months and it was sooooooo cruel, it was just by chance jay poped in seeing them still there he just HAD to buy them ! Fingers crossed ! poorrrrrrrrr TSN

Sorry to say this Mary but a tiger shovelnose is a very poor and dangerous choice of tankmate for your arowana. TSN are active openwater predators which grow to around 4 feet in length and are capable of taking very large prey, in the wild arowana's, other catfish including plecs and doradids and even stingrays are on their menu. They have one of the fastest growth rates of any fish in the hobby and yours could easily reach 2 feet within the next 6 months meaning that your arowana will be in danger of being eaten and you will need to upgrade to a larger tank. Personally i would rehome it as soon as possible before you become attached to it.
