Hi folks,

After some research (and discovering that my "Hap" is not actually a Hap but a subgenus from Lake Victoria that has pretty much become extinct in the wild!!) I am still unsure about what to do.

She has been holding now for a few days, keeping herself to herself.

Is there anything different I should do with her than what I do with my holding Mbuna's? By this I mean if the holding period pretty much the same or is it longer/shorter? As one of the more timid fish should she be removed from ym main tank early?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

steve.

The holding period will be between 3 and 4 weeks, similar to mbuna. Whether you need to remove her is something you can judge by observing her - how stressed is she?

Where did you read that this wasn't a hap?

Cheers freddy  .

On Cichlid-Forum...or so i thought.

just read the article that i had read previously and it said it is hap! I am positive I read somewhere that it is a subgenus of the Hap and so not actually a true hap!

I think the tablets are finally kicking in!!!! :S

I have bred my Astatotilapia Brownae which are very similar and my female only held eggs for 13 days before they hatched and she spat about 40 fry, all doing well. This was at 80 degrees. I put her in a separate tank after 10 days. My other female is holding eggs at the moment but I am going to leave her in the main tank and let nature take its course.

Chill,

Mark.
