I have just baought a new 35-40 litre tank and want some different fish could you tell me some fish to put in and i will post some pictres once the aquarium is complete 1 thing they must be peaceful and colourful e.g guppies

can i ask why you want such an urgent reply? your tank isn't cycled yet and not ready for fish as i explained in your other post on this subject so if you add fish now you are basically consigning them to horrible conditions and risk killing them.

it'll take a couple of weeks to prepare your tank properly for fish so you should have plenty of time to research and decide what to get

nope, i just wondered what the urgency was lol

Is it actually 35 or 40 gallon?
*urgent* Pourqoui? Sounds a little fishy to me!
Fishy  get it....
(i wonder how many times thats been done)
If you are going to cycle fish in, which i am not suggesting you are, just that if you are SO excited you have a collapse of patience and get some, you need to get as much info and money as you can. I did the whole fish-in thing recently and i can tell you from experience it is an absolute nightmare. Sorry  just thinking out loud....
I'd find a hardy fish, no Bettas, as you are obviously planning a small community tank and its not worth the risk. Gourami may be a possibility, perhaps you should look into them...
But no dwarves.
Hope that helps ya' sweet cheeks!
:shifty:
Peas.....

Standard stocking is something like a school of tetras and something dwarf gourami sized. Or similar amounts of fish.

35-40 liters lands around the ten gallon range, I'd suggest reading the pinned topic on stock options for a ten gallon as it covers most of the fish that can be kept in a tank of that size. While you do have to be careful when choosing tankmates for bettas, they make great community fish if you don't get an overly agressive betta. A lot of the "rules" for keeping bettas also only really apply to males, females are much more forgiving as far as tankmates are concerned. I wouldn't rule them out entirely as they are excellent fish for smaller tanks.

if you do get bettas, you should have a smaller spare tank in case it doesn't work out. You still have a lot of time to think so I don't see what's so urgent  some livebearers (mollies grow slightly larger) would be a nice choice, I think platys are nice, and guppies as well, swords are good too, have never had any excperience with them though. If you do getlivebearers get 2 females per male, and be prepared to see some fry once in a while. tetras might be good, and maybe some corys. How about a trio of platys/guppies, a group of small tetras (if you get male guppies though, make sure not to get nippy tetras!), and 3 corys?
