here's the thing,
pickle (the budgie) is in a standard "one budgie" sized cage which is round  (you don't have to tell me that round cages are evil i already know)
this was the ONLY second hand cage i could find in my town that could house a budgie (i'm still keeping my eyes open but i still can't find a better one"
i do not have $59 plus tax (at the very cheapest) to dish out for a nicer cage
but the round shape of the cage does not bother pickle and he has plenty of toys as well as the fact that i do not clip his wings so that when he comes out he can fly as much as he wants as long as he comes back
he is very tame and loves to talk
his only problem (the one thing i overlooked):
his territory
you see i though it was cute that when i open his cage he flies out and lands on me
and i always let him ride on my shoulder when i do my house feeding/cleaning rounds
then one day i tried to put my hands in the cage to feed him while he was STILL in there (a new thing for him)
and he made a sharp "EHH!" sort of "piss-off" sound and bit me
so i stopped taking him out when i feed him and he gets very angry at me
he doesn't go nuts but he does "EEH" once and give me one good pinch every time i put my hands in further
i think he feals trapped since his cage is so small and there is only one door
is there anything i can do to stop this?

so far i have been misting him with a spray bottle and saying in a stern voice "no bite" after he bites me but i don't pull my hand away
this stuns him for a second but he always persists, and so do i
its been 2 days and he still does it,
do i just keep this up and put my hands in his cage more often?

I was told that when my birds bit me to not to even flinch or pull away or anything, just let them bite and ignore it. When they bite you and you have a negative reaction the bird knows it can keep doing that for whatever purpose it's biting you for. I know it's hard to let them chew on you it HURTS like hell. I was told to keep cleaning the cage or feed or whatever and let them keep trying to bite and don't make a sound and they'll eventually learn that they can't do anything by biting you and they'll stop. Pain in the butt birds. lol I'm glad I don't have my quaker parrots anymore, they were meaner than gators...I have scars.

I've never heard of a budgie being trained like that, i thought alll budgies bit and were mean and loud, sounds like you got a great bird congratulations :D

my cocketiel is quite mean, but i think it is cause we are his second owner, and he used to be kept almost completely in his cage, also the other one died :byebye:

But he more active now that he is allowed to go whereever he wants and much more intresting

these are very different birds now
but i try to give him his space i the cage ours is not round and he likes to go on top he also does his ehh thing here but he seems more tolerant when he is begging for food on the railing behind the kitchen table

however he poops everywhere, and is realy old 25 this year i think

i had a cockateil about the same age but it was a female (you think males are mean :S ........)
she use to bite, scream constantly and eventually didn't even allow us to touch her or let her out.
i was her 5th owner after a long line of misinformed non-pet people.
she was almost never let out, in a tiny round cage and harassed and beat up by several dogs and babies
she was very hurt and untrusting
i nursed her for years but finally gave her to a woman with a lonely male
she use to breed them so she knew everything about them
she put my bird with her bird in a huge planted aviary and they fell in love (literally  )
they are never seen apart and my bird is still alive today
when i visit her she is very happy and no longer screams or cowers :D

Are you acuseing me of stereotypeing birds? :dunno:
And if you aren't i am acuseing you of it!!

I just meant that he isn't as afectonate as my cat, or other birds that i've seen but he really is much nicer now :D

Just when he sits on my shoulder and bites my face it seems much more viscious than a little nibble -_-

what are you talking about?????
i have no idea what you are saying.....
i was laughing and telling you a funny story about MY old cockateil.......
i said "you think males are mean" in no refference to your story,
i ment that you (the world) hasn't seen mean until you've seen an angry female cockateil since females (when abused or put into a bad situation or even just grouchy) have a reputation for being much nastier than the males
i'm sorry if i offended you..........
