basicly i have lost one goldfish, and one is dying due to ick and then finrot. then i mysteriously lost a guppy(found him dead last night) and now i have beta(kept by himself) that has a wound by its mouth. i have no idea how it happened, he is by himself and always has, the only thing in the tank is gravel(not plants or ornaments). anyways i need to know what i could possibly and how to treat it. the only thing i can think of is that i hurt him last time i cleaned the tank but that was like around 2 or so weeks. i also gave a half dose of melafix....hurry

What does the wound look like is it red, or white fungus growing on it, is it a bump, just need abit more info on the wound.

If water stats are good it should heal on its own, could add melafix to make sure it dosn' t get infected.

Maybe he injured himself on the filter? If it is an injury, extra clean water with a pinch of salt will help heal him right up.

For right now I would do a water change and add a pinch of salt or some Bettafix. I see you have Melafix, you can use that too, just make sure to dilute it quite a bit, bettas have been known to "overdose" on it and get quite sick. I avoid Melafix for that reason. Bettafix has the same ingredient, tea tree oil, only at a much more diluted percentage.

You said the last time you did a water change was 2 weeks ago...
You should try to do a water change at least once a week and add
a little bit of aquarium salt in his tank.

thanks for the help. when i get home(at school) ill change the water and add some more melafix deluted of course.

this morning i removed the beta from his tank to a large bucket filled with clean declhorinated water. i was able to get better look at the wound. it appears more like ucler or or something, its like some kind of growth. also becuase of having to catch him and his bit of thrashing in the net it started to bleed. i have to go pic of some maracyn 2 for my goldfish. can i use to help my beta. if not what should i use. ill try to get a pic up if possible.

Maracyn 2 should be fine for the treatment of the ulcer, good luck.

thanks. i hope hell be alright. ive had him for nearly 3 years i think it is. how long would i need to treat.....should i treat untill the ulcer is gone? i just thought of it......would aqaurium salt also help?

i put my betta in a tank with some aquarium salt. i noticed that the maracyn 2 will be hard to dose for his tank(1 gal) so will it be alright if i keep using melafix or would betafix be bettter? the AS did something becuase my betas breathing has slowed down to normal and he moves around more now. right now it looks like hell be back to normal in no time.....oh one more thing is the aquarium salt a 1 does thing or daily or what?

Salt only needs to be added at water changes. Salt stays in the water, even when some of it evaporates.

Since he is in a 1g tank you should be doing 100% water changes at least once a week. The ulcer could have been caused by bad water conditions. 2 weeks is too long to go without a water change.

Good luck.
