I have 60 lbs of Arogonite sugar grained sand, do i need to wash it or anything?

If its the black stuff that you can use in reef tanks then yes. I had some and washed it because the packet said to wash it and Im glad I did with the about in black water it made. It would have made a right mess of my tank if I didnt.

I didn't wash mine I just added it in. It made the tank really really cloudy for about 4 days.

you should rinse it regardless to remove any dirt, debris and foriegn matter that might have gotten in the bag.

Yeah good idea to wash it. I didnt with mine but as above it made the water very cloudy.

WASH IT!
I got alot of disgusting stuff coming out of mine. Water i was washing with not only went cloudy but foamy? With a greasy looking surface, I mean you could've gotten it out with a protein skimmer but just washing it beforehand is alot nicer.
I washed it around 10 times before the water started to come out clear... Maybe aquarium supplies in Sydney are just terrible.

I had 30lbs of the Live Bio-Activ Sand and I didn't wash any of it...i just threw it in the tank.

It was cloudy for a day...but cleared right up. I left the filter on for a day...and it cleared everything really fast. I didn't think it made sense to wash it as the sand had "live bacteria"...i would be washing the bacteria out...which defeats the purpose of buying the sand.

Yeah if you wash live sand then your likely to wash everything 'live' away

I dont think the OP has bought live sand. I rinsed a little bit of my sand whcih isnt live and just looked how clear the water was that came off it. It was clear so i chucked it in the tank. If it had run cloudy through the sand i would have rinsed it all

Also...I think because sand is so fine...you would lose a ton of sand in the washing process.

Something like crushed coral I would wash and I did.

Just make sure you don't wash it in the sink like some genus I know did (ME)...my fiancee was pissed when I jammed the garbage disposal.
