Arnie Doesn't Look Well!!

My betta Arnie look really sick!!! His tank has a little (about 2" long) plant pot in it which the cories usually use, and Arnie has been in it since last night!!! I did my normal 25% water change a few days ago, i put exactly the same stuff in the water (its also the same water i put in my ten gal and they're all fine), and did everything like i usually do. Ive also tested the water and thats all normal.

I noticed last night his colour seemed a little bit paler and he didnt eat all of his pellets which NEVER happens!!! Ive only seen him come out of his pot twice to go to the surface and then he goes back in, though im sure he must have been out a few more times to breathe!!

Ive put some melafix in and a little salt, can anyone suggest anything else? Does he sound ill? Ive had him four months and i dont know how old he was when i got him from the pet shop, i guess he could have been a year or more!!! Could he be just getting old? Ive heard they only live four 2-3 years!!!

If anyone has any suggestions at all id be really grateful... Poor Arnie... :-(

bettaMAX (not to be confused with the bottle of poo known as bettaFIX) bettaMAX somces in capsules and will turn your water green.
when something is obviously wrong with your betta but youre not sure what it is, bettaMAX is the best bet. its got lots of added vitamins as well as meds :)

hope that helps

Hey,

Thanks for the reply! But im not sure if we get bettamax over here! Ive looked for it before in all my local pet and fish stores and cant find it anywhere!! Should i just carry on with the melafix and hope he gets better...?

I bought BettaFix because I couldn't find any BettaMax...finally found the Max while I was out of town this past week - I should have bought a bunch since it's nowhere to be found here where I live. What makes the Max so good and the Fix such crap?

Just curious.

heard bettaFIX is just a diluated version of melafix.

anyways, for arnie...what's the temperature of the tank? do you have a heater in it? becuase betats can sometimes turn lethargic if the temperature is too cold  i think arnie will be fine though :)

It doesn't have a heater but it stays around 24 degrees celcius (which its at at the moment). I have a reptile heat mat that i use if it does drop but so far its been ok! :) He's still in his pot.... The cories look fine, i dont understand it!! I just gave him some bloodworms and he ate them though :) I hope he'll be ok... He's my favourite fishie! :)

24 is about 75F (according to my convertor :p) why not try using the heat mat and see if you can bring it up to 80? Most bettas will do fine in 75F, but i perfer to raise it to 80 if they dont' seem to be doing well.

Arnie could just be feeling depressed at the moment :D

IT is?? lol neva new im dumb

Ok!! I suppose if he is feeling a bit down its not going to help if he's not as warm as he'd like to be... Poor Arnie... :( I shall sort him out a heat mat!!!

Thank You! :)

hopes arnie gets better  keep us posted :)

p.s. jac you must be tired of repeating the same line (not to be confused with a bottole of poo known as bettaFIX) :D

just want to make sure people dont make the same mistakes i did when i started out.
i htought- "its called bettaFIX-i guess it will fix my broken bettas. and gosh, its only 2 dollars!"
i should have looked at the price and known it was crap...

bettafix either never worked for me or it actually killed my fish. :(

Some of us just don't know, and appreciate the expertise of those here that have been at this hobby for a lot longer.

Thanks. :)

I just wish i lived in America... We have NO specialist betta medication over here and very few really nice bettas, especially in pet shops... You guys are lucky!!!
