My oscar and midas hybrid (who, due to the developing nuchal hump, I have decided is probably male and therefore underwent a name change from Marie Antoinette to Antoine,) had their first quarrel today. Antoine has been really flarey lately and thinks he's a bigshot, so he decided to challenge my oscar... who is about twice his size.
The oscar mostly avoided him, since he is not very aggressive at all... but he eventually got tired of being nipped and put Antoine in his place. Aristotle may have gotten a ripped fin or two, but somebody lost a few scales, and let's just say that somebody wasn't Aristotle
Mr. fancy pants is now sulking in his cave, acting quite humiliated at his failed attempt to become the leader of the tank.

Don't worry, neither fish received any injuries worth mentioning... I'll have to keep a closer eye on them in the future, though :sly:
I'm just proud of Aristotle for showing that little troublemaker who's boss! :flex:

Edit: Now they're swimming together again as if they were best friends
Aristotle is keeping a closer watch on Antoine, though.

Hmm... it would appear I spoke too soon. Antoine decided to challenge Aristotle again while I was napping, apparently, and while they were getting along again while I was watching, Aristotle is missing a few scales and the tips of his fins look frayed (no huge splits or anything)
I can't afford to buy TWO new large tanks right now (I'm already in the market for one,) so it looks like Antoine might have to take a trip back to the LFS :byebye:
I put in a tank divider so he can't pick at Artistotle anymore tonight, and I guess I'll take him back tomorrow...
To tell you the truth, I'm not that bothered by it. Aristotle is my baby, and I'm quite upset with Antoine for being a little stinker and roughing up my poor "defenseless" oscar :grr:. If he had been picking on the bichir instead, perhaps I would be more upset to see him go.
I was hoping that, since Antoine is probably a hybrid, maybe he wouldn't be as nasty as some midas, but I see I was wrong.... ah well. Here's the part where you can say you told me so
