when i change my tank from gravel to sand i plan to use argos play sand. stupid question i know but will i need to wash it like the gravel ?

Yep.I washed it half a bucket at a time under a tap in the bath.Only took about 20 minutes each 1/2 bucket.

yes and more so but its not that bad just be careful not to wash it all away

cheers. easiest thing i can think of then is to put the sand in a bucket fill it with water swish it around then syphon off the water. any better way ?

Put sand in bucket, run bath tap into it,swirl it round and keep tap running til the water runs clear. At least thats what i did.

Yep, is fine. Just keep cleaning and cleaning. Will take about 20mins per bucket of sand for the water to run clear.

Just watch that too much sand doesn't run down the plug or it may block up.

i did the same as jimmy and didnt lose hardly any only the crappy dust and scum

I found it faster to use the hose outside. Granted, I didn't use Argos, as it's not sold here, but playsand, yeah. I used the swish-in-a-bucket method in the sink downstairs, running water continuously, and then I figured I might as well try the other method, where you take the bucket outside, stick a hose in it, and turn it on. The water running out of the hose at the bottom of the bucket takes over the swishing/swirling part (cold water hurts my hands, man!), and I swear, it took less time. I just tipped the bucket over somewhat every now and then help clear out the floating sand, and before long, whatever sand was stirred up would settle almost immediately and the rest of the water would be crystal clear.

However, it's not such a fun idea in the middle of winter...
