I think my guppy's either had or having fry.

I've seen two tonight, while I was doing the water change on the "mum's & fry" tank. The fry are about 1.5mm long and transperant, all you can see is an eyeball! Are these guppy fry? I figured she wasn't due for at least another week!

She's sharing with 30 dalmation molly fry (from 1 - 2.5cm), 3 pregnant mollies and a platy, not sure if the platy's pregnant yet, no gravid spot.

Forgot to add that the guppy still has a gravid spot and is not fat, hasn't been fat yet!

Is the 'spot' near the 'anal fin'? If so then your 'guppy is pregnant'.

Ummm yeah, that's how I know she's pregnant!

What I asked is if the fry I found are guppy fry! I already know she's pregnant, that's why I bought her!

So back on track, how long between deliveries? I have her in my home-made fry net at the moment (kitchen sieve floating in the top of the tank), I don't want to leave her in there too long incase I'm wrong about who the fry belong to.

I don't think they're molly fry, as stated above I have molly fry and these guys look nothing like molly fry at all. Molly fry look like minature mollies!

my guppies had fry a week or so ago... they were as you described....it doesnt take long for her to let em all go...hard to keep them alive though everything has to be just right!

thanks Puffer, just what I wanted to know! I had a feeling it was the guppy, but wasn't quite sure as I haven't had guppy fry yet. How long does it take for the gravid spot to go? Straight away?

near enough as soon as the female has gave birth she will be produceing eggs for the next lot, even with no male they can have upto 7 lots of fry, usually every 4 weeks, good luck with the fry :good:

I think 1.5mm might be a bit small to be guppy fry, i watched one of mine giving birth the last time, and I was quite suprised at the size of them, they were at least 5mm long, and she had abt 40 (only 7 survived though).
Then again, she is a big fish, the largest of all my guppies, so maybe she's going to have bigger fry?

they dont really pick a spot from what i saw..they just let'r rip but sometimes you think they done but...they really arent lol just keep an eye out for em there maybe more hiding and also check the gravel if thats what you have they tiny and can easly slip through the gravel and get crushed

I'm quite serious these guys are tiny, you can hardly see them except for their great big black eyes! I managed to get one this evening and have it in my version of a fry net (flour sieve, floating in the top of the tan)
