I told you guys how my female betta is ready to mate (full of eggs and all), but my male is not. Well tonight I bought a beautiful crown tail who (they say) should be old enough to mate. She even went in the back to find him b/c she thought he would be ready. Anyway, so I put him in the 10 gallon with my other fish and my female who's ready! SHE was attacking him, although not nipping at him, scaring him half to death (poor thing). I also bought another beautiful female tonight, hoping he would maybe be interested in her (or my other male would) and she is full of eggs.

I have my old male in a breeding net in the 10 gallon (temporarily)

So here is the funny part...

my new male is ONLY interested in the male in the breeding tank, and is terrified of what use to be my most passive female (zoe). He doesn't want to attack my old male, just stare at him constantly, yet wants nothing to do with zoe or my new girl.

So, my new male wants my old male,
my old male wants to kill everyone,
my new female wants my old male (the killer)
and zoe wants the new male...but she doesn't just want him, she scares him to death (which is funny b/c i always saw her as more passive, until today)!
confused? yeah no kidding...you would think with 2 pregnant bettas and 2 male bettas, SOMEONE would do something!

Even funnier??? I put my new male and female bettas in a breeding net and he wasn't interested, kinda flares but doesn't do anything else. Then I put my OTHER female (so now he has 2 girls in there with him, BOTH full of eggs) and he's just kinda relazing in the corner. Guess neither of them are ready. But bring my other male near him and he gets very excited, yet not mean at all... I pick the best of them, don't i!

Your best bet would be to set up another tank (preferably 5-10 gallons) and try to breed them properly. Also have you conditioned them? Set up another tank, make sure the temp is around 80-84 degrees, give the male something to bubblenest under (styrophoam works really well) float the female in a cup so the male can see her but not get to get, and once she's all barred up and he has a nest then release her and you should get some results.
