ive got two apple snails in one tank, ive noticed them embracing alot recently and now ive noticed 6 small snails in the tank, i haent introduced new plants for months and the tank had been free from pest snails for months as well due to a few clown loaches who ive now moved to the large tank, these small ones are brown but do have the same features of the apple snail shell, i aint seen any eggs on the hood or glass just aboe the water level. question is:
Are young apple snails brown to start with?

nope. when they hatch they are just tiny versions of their parents. ive seen the brown ones before but dont know what species they are. they seem to just 'pop up' every now and then. maybe theyve been hiding somewhere growing big enough for the clown loach not to eat them :)

thank for that, off they go then before i get infested :hyper:

I read somewhere recently that Apple Snails require some salt in their tank. Is this true or not as I was planning on getting some for one of my freshwater setups? :)

Just make sure if they die, take them out ASAP. But that isn't going to happen ^_^ lol!

A couple of questions.
What colour are your apple snails?
How often did you check for eggs?
Do you know what the eggs look like?

go to www.applesnail.net thats about the best website for info on apple snails. there are a few different coloured snails in the same family. theres the most common on commonly called the apple snail or golden mystery snail or just mystery snail.

you dont need to check for eggs. you will just see them. they lay on the glass either on the underside of the lid or just above the water line. they are pinkish in colour and in a warm climate will hatch in about 14-21 days depending on how warm. it is votal they are kept warm and damp. not wet!!! if submerged at this point they will drown. they just need it quite humid or they will dry out.
