I had some swords in the tank, in each corner of a 4ft. The one that was in the sunny corner did really well and grew massive and the one in the other corner did very little and was green but small. So a few months ago a swapped them around and rerooted them in place of each other to get the small one to grow but in time they are dying, I imagine something to do with uprooting them, they aren't growing and the leaves just go gradually brown and holey did they come away and get binned, are they at all salvagable or are the roots completely dead and not worth it.

On another note, I put a lot of java ferns in my tank a few months ago attaching rhizoms to wood and they looked good. Whereas my anubias nanas literally flourish in the tank and flower often, the ferns go patchy and brown and I think the fish are eating them because I never find the remains but the leaves are being munched.

Shall I do away with those too?

You can see a bit from the pic how well the anubias nanas do in comparison - even my other anubias do fairly poorly, although my onion bulbs are doing well, my vallis have done ok to a point then stopped growing and aren't as green as I think they could be. I also have a little crypto that does really well to, it doesn't grow huge but it's very green. I dose a fert every now and again.

Latest pic, the anubias is all that really survived this planting

that could be your problem. How much and of which brand?

Also what is the tank size (gallons) and lighting (watts)

I don't it often at all
Just the tetramin or something I can't honestly remember
It's a 55 gal but very very low wpg less than 1 I think but it's in a bright spot opposite the back doors so does get a nice dose of sunlight too

tetra plantamin?

you need to be dosing at least every week (after your water change). this is even more important because you dont have any nutrients in the substrate which help to take the stress off of the nutrients in the water column. and swords are heavy root feeders.

Try dosing weeekly, and add some root tabs every 3-4months.

OK thanks, in the meantime shall I ditch them or will they pick up if I dose more often?

wait and they will pick up eventually,

I like your anubias centrepiece, looks great :good:

ahh thank you it has come along beautifully on its own it's just the things around it that are failing lol

Yeah I really like that anubias cluster you have going on there.
I have absolutely NO luck with anubias. Always hear people saying how easy it is, and impossible to kill, blahblahblah... pffftt... my anubias look awful and on the verge of being dead! :shout:

TBH It's almost a naturally occurring phenomenen (sp?) and I didn't exactly train or plan it like that, but it did work out pretty good and so i am loathe to move the wood in case the formation changes but i do think it being in the centre looks a bit unnatural
