I travel 30 miles to Maindenhead Aquatics for my fish, as I like to know Im getting good advice and healthy fish, rather then the local pet store.
I told them I had a Betta and they told me these fish would be fine with the Betta as they were community fish.
I trusted them.

Anyway, when I floated the bag, my Betta seemed to be aggressive with them - thought I was in for trouble!
Upon releasing them, they seem to live together fine, and keep out of each others way.

However, Ive noticed my Betta doesnt seem to be as 'happy' as he used to be. He still comes up to greet me when I go to the tank etc, but he spends more time down the bottom as well now.
Also Ive notice his fins are in worse condition them normal. They used to be almost perfect - now, every day they seem a little worse, like they have been nipped etc.

Throughout the day the above fish are nowhere near my Betta, and Ive never noticed any trouble. Maybe it happens overnight when the lights etc are off??

I feel like Ive made a mistabke with the above fish.

What are they, and are they actually compatible, or have I been fed a load of bull by the fish store?!

They look like they could be bleeding heart tetras and I wouldn't put it past them to be having a nip at your fighters fins. I have found some of the larger tetra species to be a bit nippy, sometimes if you have a larger group they are better behaved but I can't gaurentee that.

I can only put it down to these - other then these I only have 3 Albino Cory's. The Betta an dthe Cory's lived happily - its just since Ive introduced these new fish into the tank my Betta seems upset, and his fins are worse for wear!

If I remove them, will my Betta's fins re-develop?? Ive ordered some proper Betta food for him as well so hopefully it will give him a good diet along with the flake food and maybe the odd treat now and then.

Their fins to repair themselves, provided you keep their tank nice and clean, however I don't think their fins ever really recover to their full former glory, other Betta keepers who have had more experience with fighters with damaged fins should be able to tell you more about this.

I would not blame the cory's for doing any damage to the fighter as cory's would have to be the most inoffensive fish you could ever own, they are more likely to be the victims of bullying than being bullies.

My Betta had a minor case of fin rot (I think, not sure what else it could have been) I used Betta Revive and everything filled in nicely. You can't tell anything was wrong. I also have Corys with my Betta and am pretty sure they would never even think about fin nipping. ( I put him in the ER tank while I was treating him)

The problem with "community" fish is that it's a very broad statement. There are plenty of so called community fish that show aggressive behaviour to other fish. For instance, I've had very bad luck with Silver Tip Tetras. They were insane and caused some of my fish to die. My rummynose tetras like to "nip" at delicate, long fish fins. Bettas are very prone to getting nipped because of their long, flowing fins. There are other tetras that nip, Serpae, Black Skirt, Emperors to name a few. But you will always see them labeled as community fish. It's just one of those things that you have to try out for yourself because I'm sure that all the fish I mentioned that nip, there will be other people who will say it never happened to them. It can be trial and error. As far as the fish in the picture, they don't look like bleeding heart tetras as I don't see the red dot that they get. Maybe it's just the lighting. If they have the red dot on each side, it's a Bleeding Heart Tetra.

The fish are Bentosi Tetra ,not bleeding heart. They should keep themselves to themselves but might nip at your betta. If it becomes a problem, return them. It shouldnt be though
