I was thinking of getting a pair of thread fin rainbowfish ( I think thats what their called), and maybe a pair of platys. Will these be ok in my BC12.

I don't see any problem with the mix, but I'm afraid that I am not formilia with the tank model that you hae.

Threadfin Rainbows prefer to be kept in groups of about 5-6.
Platies also prefer to be kept in groups of about 5-6, at least 2 females to 1 male is an ideal ratio as they breed so readily.
In a 12G tank, having all of these fish will lead to overstocking. You are probably best buying the Threadfins and then adding something like a pair of Rams to keep your stocking limit at a good level.

Not to mention when the platties decide to breed. I would just go with the threadfins (Iriatherina werneri)

so, 5 threadfins? Better check how much they are again...

New thought, how about 4-6 tetras, any kind, as long as their not too small.

There are many tetra species that don't get too big and you could probably have a shoal of 6-8 in that size tank with adequate filtration.
